The practice of yoga during pregnancy can be a powerful preparation for labor as well as an opportunity to connect with your baby and body as it undergoes amazing transformation.
Khalsa Way, a very specific "birth yoga" is a practice developed and taught by Gurmukh Kuar Khalsa, a teacher of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and a pioneer in the field of pre-natal yoga. She is the co-founder and director of the Golden Bridge Yoga Center in LA and NYC. Khalsa is a derivative of a Sanskrit word that means pure. Pure means conscious; you have the power to have this baby. All of us can reach into a place within ourselves where courage is a limitless resource, we need that courage to counter our conditioning to pain and fear. The Khalsa Way aims to overcome those misconceptions so we can find our own natural way of bringing a soul out to life.
Rebecca studied directly under Gurmukh during her own pregnancy and her birth experience was profoundly informed by this empowering practice. As a doula and LMT, Rebecca infuses the 90 minutes of stretching, meditation ad breath work with practical information about the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, what to expect during labor (the unexpected!) and how to best prepare for this using your own inner resources.
Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga is on Saturdays from 12-1:30 at the beautiful Love In Motion Studio at 1250 Niagara Street. Private and Skype sessions available upon request.
***This is NOT a modified practice but a very specific set of rhythmic movements to strengthen the pelvic floor, encourage realignment of joints, cultivate awareness and community and fortify the spirit.
